Summer Learning Journey - The World Wildlife Fund, Day 3 Week 1 Activity 9.

The name of the animal the WWF is working to save? The name of the animal is Seals. 

What the WWF is doing to help the animal? They built snow banks so when the baby seals are first born they don’t die. 

I have learnt about seals and why the WWF needs to save them.

Good Things:

1. I wouldn’t live there because you might get bitten by one of the animals. 

2. You might fall over and get run over by the animals.

I would not like to live on Great Barrier Island because you don’t know what’s going to happen. 

I have learnt that the Secretive Skink are on Great Barrier Island and on Little Barrier Island.

 My Beast looks like a tiger with long dragon legs, has colours on his fur and had long big white wigs that can fly anywhere, my beast smells like brand new things when you get on him. My beast feels like a very soft blanket and you could probably sleep on him if he was real, and last but not less my beast sounds like a rowing lion and tiger put together.

Today I have learnt something different and cool, I have learnt how to make my very on fantastic Beast and my beast is called miles.

I would like to visit Tane Mahuta because I would like to see what it would look like and I would like to learn more about the Tane Mahuta Tree. I Would also like to visit the Tane Mahuta Tree because I think that if I see the tree than I can learn more about different trees as well and then I can know a lot about trees because they sound interesting.

I have learnt a little bit about the Tane Mahuta tree and that it is a tree that it's the longest tree to live.

Activity 1: The legend of New Zealand. For week 1 of the Summer Learning Journey I was reading about the legend of new Zealand and I have found 3 fun facts and put them in my own work. 

1. In New Zealand we have a place called Aotearoa which is the whole of New Zealand, and Aotearoa mean the long white cloud. 

2. New Zealanders are also called kiwis but, kiwis are not a fruit and it’s new Zealand’s native flightless bird.

 3. New Zealand is the biggest city in the whole of new Zealand even if wellington is the capital of new Zealand. 

I have learnt about the legend of new Zealand.

Meet Me In Horrorwood.

                  Meet Me In Horrorwood.


It was almost midnight at that time I was still working in my office. Suddenly I saw a bat shadow outside my big window. Weird right! I wondered if it is really a bat? When I looked outside my window a  bright light shined through my window it was to bright that I near look at it for hours and hours. Oh my gosh I forgot to introduce myself Hello my name is Geronimo Stilton. So as I turned back to my computer I felt like somebody or something was watching me again Weird right! I said it myself I must be dreaming right I must go to the office kitchen to get myself a cup of nice hot Cheddar but as I was drinking my Cheddar I heard something behind me so I slowly turned around I knew that I saw a bat shadow behind me so I jump up in the air at least 5 meters high because I don’t like bats. But then I say slowly hey there little guy what is your name oh never mind. So as I turned back around to my computer I slowly moved to the office kitchen well I didn’t really go slowly I actually screamed and ran to the office kitchen. After a while I went back into my  office to chick if the bat was still there but when I went in the bat was gone. Later that night I heard a noise coming from in front of me so I slowly leaned forward to see what was there but then a bat popped up and I screamed but I didn’t move that time, I was so scared that I froze and then….

Structure for explanation Writing.

WALT: remember the structure of an explanation piece of writing. 

 How to be a good sister. 

Introduction: This piece of writing is going to about how to be a good sister, to your brother or sister. You will be a good sister or brother if you listen to some of these ideas.

 Information 1: Kindness is when you have to be nice to each other. You could be a good sister by being kind to your sister or brother. You can tell them what the right thing to do. be kind to other people as well. 

Information 2: You can helping your brother or sister is a good thing because your brother might not reach something so you can help by getting it down for him, and for your sister you can help her by asking her if she needs help with anything like making her bed or helping with homework. 

Information 3: Caring for your brother or sister is a good thing because you can be a great role model for them to look up to. For an example you could read them a story at night. 

Conclusion: Thank you for visiting my blog and thank you for reading my work on how to be a good sister. I hope you want to do one of my Ideas so you can be a good sister to your brother or sister.

  • If someone tries to put you down say to them I am valuable.
  • Believe in yourself to achieve your goals.
  • You are valuable to yourself and to everybody else.

Relationships take time:

  • Take your time when your in a relationship because things can happen.
  • Me and my friends are in a cool relationship with each other because we are great friends and we trust each other.
  • Be a great friend to who ever your in a relationship with because you can get to know them really well.

Parents:
  • You have to talk to you parents so they know what’s happening.
  • When you talk to your parent be confident in yourself to tell your parents what’s wrong.
  • Don’t be shy to tell your parents what's going on because they can help you and they are your biggest supporters know matter what you do.

Immersion Assembly Team 3: Body Painting.


WALT: Doing body painting.

Today in Immersion Assembly we watched every teams Item, Team 3 was doing body painting and I am going to write about Team 3. Miss King and Miss Eaddy was painting on Miss Scanlen and Mr Moran. Miss King and Miss Eaddy put a long paper on the ground then Miss Eaddy and Miss King painted and the teachers on the stage, Then they got down to the ground and wherever the paint was they had to mark it on the paper, After they did that Mr Moran, Miss King, and Miss Eaddy drew more things on the paper then they were finished with they Item.

Team 3 is doing body painting.

Today was the first day of school and we had an Immersion Assembly. Our teachers had to get on stage to show the school what we were doing for term 4. Team 5 are doing How do artist express meaning through their art, There were students in this act, the students are the teachers. Mr Wiseman was the teacher for art class at tech, Mr Wiseman said that the students had to paint something that can relate to their sole. The students started to paint what relate to them in their soles. Mrs Tele’a painted a paint brush because you can use brushes to do all sorts of things. Miss Tapuke painted a square and a small dot in the middle of the square because Miss Tapuke is the dot. Mrs Ilaoa painted a Drumstick because she has some KFC from white sunday. So for this term team 5 are doing How do artists express meaning through their art.

Show Not Tell Part 2.

WALT: look at the features of an effective paragraph.

The Night Sky.

 1. The sky was pitch black but the stars were shining from the sky. The trees were black and the wind was blowing. The colour of the Star Struck was like a wave going along the sky. The colour was glancing in my eyes as I looked at it.

 The Sunset.

 2. As the sun was about to go down it slowly went down and the moon was coming up. The orange sunset was beautiful you could see it from somebody’s eyes. The sun went down and the moon came up the sky was orange and black with stars in the sky.

 The theme park.

 3. The theme park was filled with rides, The rockets went up down and all around. The Star bot cafe was filled with with yum food, Muffins, drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, and more yum things.

 The night Lightning sky.

 4. The sky was dark and the blue lightning struck the fence. The clouds were grey and the and lightning came out. The trees were black and the tree was burning hot and smoking.

We are learning to look at the features.

Show not tell.

WALT: show our audience with our words rather than directly tell - 'Show not Tell'.
Work with a partner to see if you can rewrite one of these  to ‘Show not Tell’
I felt angry: I threw my book onto the floor,
I messed up my room as I slammed the door,
I screamed as loud as I could.


It was a sunny day: The sun was bursting onto my head and arms,
My arms are burning.
as I was sweating I was holding an umbrella
going into the water but I was running out.  


It was cold at the beach: I put my jacket on,
I put my hands together and I started to rub them together,
I put gloves on and a scurf.
Brainstorm as many different ideas as you can that show that it was cold at the beach.

Brainstorm: putting extra gloves on, putting Scarf on, putting my Jacket on,
Rubbing my hands, Blowing on my hands to keep them warm,
The wind was strong and the wind was blowing my hair all around.


Now try to write a paragraph using these ideas that shows it was cold at the beach,
without using the words beach or cold
(don't just switch the word cold to another adjective such as freezing
as that is still just telling. - Try to show that you are cold.
Think about how you are feeling/what you are doing/what you see/hear/feel to help show this.


I put my jumper and jacket on,
I put my gloves on my hands,
I put a scarf around my neck as I was rubbing my hands together,
I put extra socks and gloves on.
I blew onto my hands to get them warm,
I was rubbing my legs and arms together.
The sky was grey and the waves were big and clashing together
the was under the clouds nowhere to be found.
We are learning to show our audience with our words rather than directly tell -'Show not tell'.

The Tongan dance at assembly.

WALT: Write about something that happened in assembly.

Today is Friday and we had assembly and it was a very long assembly. When we walked in the hall we sat down and waited until all of the classes were siting down. After that The Tongan girls and boys went on the stage after they were called up.

When all of the Tongan girls and boys got on the stage the music started, So all the Tongan people started to dance. After the girls finished dancing the junior girls got off the stage and went back to their seat's and sat down.

Then the Senior girls got off the stage and sat down, After all the girl sat down the boys got on the stage. When the all of the boys got on the stage someone was playing a drum and the boys were going to the beat.

We are learning to Write about something that happened in assembly.

Paragraph Writing.

Who is my hero?
 Paragraph writing Point: What is the point of this paragraph? Stephen Curry & Will Smith is my hero because they do things, like Stephen Curry plays basketball and I love Basketball. Will Smith is an actor and I love to act. That’s why Stephen Curry & Will Smith is my hero.

 Explain: Explain your point so that the reader knows what your point is about, and so you know what you are writing about. The reason why I love basketball and acting is because I just love to do those things, it’s way better than sitting inside your house watching TV or on the internet. I love to shot the ball in the hoop and I love to vs other people. I love acting because you can use your expression and I love to talk to other people by acting.

 Example/Evidence: is there anything from your research or that you know that can back up your point? Stephen Curry is popular because he has defied expectations, he's fun to watch, and his game is relocatable. Stephen Curry grew up around professional basketball. His father, Dell, was by all rights a very successful NBA player[1]and a tremendous jump shooter. Willard Carroll “Will” Smith Jr. (born September 25, 1968) is an American actor, producer, comedian, rapper and songwriter. In April 2007, Newsweek called him "the most powerful actor in Hollywood".

 Relevance: summarise your paragraph and link it back to the question! Stephen Curry is my hero because he is a great sportsmanship and Will Smith is my hero because he is a great actor and he is very cool and supportive and so is Stephen Curry.

We are learning to understand what needs to go in a paragraph so we can construct one ourselves.

Ways on how to stay healthy and fit: Writing Week 6 Task.

WALT: review what we remember in explanation writing.

Explanation writing: Explain ways in which we can keep healthy.

Introduction: Hi if you want to keep fit and healthy you want to keep fit and healthy then you came to the right place. Let me ask you a question. What would you choose. Fries or Fruits? Cupcake or Apple? They real answer you should pick is Fruits and an apple. Because you want to be healthy.

Paragraph 1: Eat your fruit. You have to eat your fruit to stay healthy because you can have a favourite fruit. My favourite fruit is Apples. So you can have a favourite fruit. Fruit is good for you heath.

Paragraph 2: Eat your vegetables. You always have to remember that you have to eat your vegetables not just your fruits. Make sure you eat 50% of you fruits and 50% of you vegetables.

 Paragraph 3: You have to make sure you exercise to keep fit. If you want some tips on how to stay fit then I have some for you. When you want to do something and your doing nothing then you can go for a walk to the beach or you can run have a swim. You can also walk on the beach or run on the beach. 

Paragraph 4: You have to stretch before you go for a run or workout at the gym then you can stretch your arms before you start or When you have a game of rugby of when you have training then you definitely need to stretch be if you don’t your get sore legs and arms.

Do you know how perseverance works? Well if you don’t then you came to the right place. I’m going to make a list of things that are to do with perseverance and how it works:
Never Giving up, Trying something new,
Believe in yourself, and your Attitude.
So keep on reading to find something you have never heard.

Are you giving up most of the time? Well you should never give up because if you do you won’t know something if you keep on giving up. I'll tell you a little thing or 2 about never giving up.
The first one is don’t be shy to ask for help because,
if you ask for help you will understand more, second of all keep on going by never giving up.

If you have never tried something new that means you haven't learnt that much, but that doesn’t mean that your dump,
it means try something new so you can learn something new.
So you should try something new most of the time.

When you want to play with your friends and someone ask you if they can play, what happens if you say NO? So if you say no then you don’t really care about others,
But that’s not the answer look what would happen if you say. If you say NO! they will feel sad and left out but we don’t want that to happen right?
So if someone ask you if they can play with you and your friends say Yes! and help them out.
